General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards of flying debris: At this location on the West side of the shop, employees were exposed to the hazards of flying shards in that the shop air was piped through this facility via Poly-Vinyl-Chloride (PVC) piping. Plastic pipe is subject to failure and shattering when exposed to the pressures of compressed gases. A means of abatement would be to replace the existing PVC piping with a type suitable for the transmission of compressed gases.
