Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to a fire/explosion hazard:
Finishing Department, on or about 6/9/05: The following areas had more
than three
approved flammable liquid storage cabinets in any single process area
without the
approval of the authority having jurisdiction:
a)Finishing Lab Area; Enhancing Booth Area and Tie Coat Booth Area
had eleven flammable storage cabinets containing flammable materials
used for spraying operations.
b)Cells No. 6 and No. 7 had four flammable storage cabinets containing
flammable materials used for spraying operations.
c)West End of Finishing Department had six flammable storage cabinets
containing flammable materials used for spraying operations.
d)Stain Booth Cell #4 had four flammable storage cabinets containing
flammable materials used for spraying operations.
Abatement certification must be submitted for this item.
ABATEMENT NOTES:
Among other methods one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this
hazard is to:
1. Group no more than three flammable storage cabinets in any single
process area.
2. Receive written approval from the authority having jurisdiction to
allow for more
than three approved flammable storage cabinets in any single process area.
3. Move two or three of the flammable storage cabinets to another work
area.
