At "Jose M. Lazaro Library" of the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras
Campus; the
employees were writing in the computers, attending people, answering the
phone,
storaging, dispatching and moving books, magazines and newspapers, among
others
works. There was evidence of ceiling water filtrations in the following
areas.
a) Circulation and Reserve Collection, second floor, east wing of the
library.
b) File area of Administrative Services Office, second floor, east wing of
the library.
c) Auxiliary Directors Office, second floor, east wing of the library.
d) Adquisitions, sixth floor of six floor tower.
e) Disability area, first floor of the library.
Hazard: Slips and falls.
Among other correction methods, one feasible and acceptable to correct
this hazard is
repair the ceiling.
En la Biblioteca Jose M. Lazaro de la Universidad de Puerto, Recinto de
Rio Piedras;
los empleados estaban escribiendo en las computadoras, atendiendo
personas, contestando
el telefono, almacenando, despachando y moviendo libros, revistas y
periodicos, entre
otros trabajos. Habia evidencia de filtraciones en el techo en las
siguientes areas.
a) Coleccion de Circulacion y Reserva, segundo piso, ala este de la
biblioteca.
b) Archivo de la Oficina de Servicios Administrativos, segundo piso, ala
este de la
biblioteca.
c) Oficina de los Directores Auxiliares, segundo piso, ala este de la
biblioteca.
d) Adquisiciones, sexto piso de la torre de seis pisos.
e) Area de personas con impedimentos, primer piso de la biblioteca.
Riesgo: Resbalones y caidas.
Entre otros metodos, uno factible y aceptable para corregir este riesgo es
reparar el

Damp Mop Neutral Disinfectant Cleaner, SparCreme, Fuller Brush Pine Oil
Deodorant,
NBA Blue Bowl Cleaner Bathroom Plus, HG Marble Crystallizer, Supra Wash
Industrial
Strenght Degreaser, Full Sparkle Spray Polish Fuller, Self Sealing Equinox
Ultra High-
Speed Floor Coating, Super Charged Rinse Free Floor Sripper Husky,
Drip-O-Matic
Drip Fluid Deodorant /Cleaner Karsas, Natural Acid Bowl and Porcelain
Cleaner
Spartan, Ammoniated Glass Cleaner, SprayBuff Spartan, Industrial Baseboard
Stripper,
Industrial Germicidal Cleaner, among others, used by janitors to perform
their cleaning
works in: bathrooms, floors, offices and rooms. These products contained
hazardous
chemical substances, such as: potassium hydroxide, sodium metasilicate,
monoethanolamine, mineral spirits, isobutane, ammonia, among others, which
were
irritant and corrosive. They were storage in this area without adequate
ventilation,
causing vapors to remain in the area, exposing the employees to this
odors.
Hazard: Exposition to hazardous chemicals substances.
Among other correction methods, one feasible and acceptable to correct
this hazard is
install and adequate extraction system or storaging the products in
another site with
adequate ventilation.
En un armario de madera localizado en la Oficina de Facilidades
Universitarias y en un
cuarto utilizado como cuarto de almacenaje de productos en el primer piso
de la
Biblioteca Jose M. Lazaro de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Rio
Piedras; se
encontraban almacenados productos, tales como: "DMQ Damp Mop Neutral
Disinfectant
Cleaner", "SparCreme", "Fuller Brush Pine Oil Deodorant", "NBA Blue Bowl
Clener
Bathroom Plus", HG Marble Crystallizer", "Supra Wash Industrial Strenght
Degreaser",
"Full Sparkle Spray Polish Fuller", "Self Sealing Equinox Ultra High-Speed
Floor
Coating", "Super Charged Rinse Free Floor Stripper Husky", "Dripo-O-Matic
Drip Fluid
Deodorant/Cleaner Karsas","Natural Acid Bowl and Porcelain Cleaner
Spartan","Ammoniated Glass Cleaner","SprayBuff Spartan","Industrial
Baseboard
Stripper","Industrial Germicidal Cleaner", entre otros, utilizados por los
conserjes para
realizar sus trabajos de limpieza en: banos, pisos, oficinas y cuartos.
Estos productos
contenian sustancias quimicas peligrosas, tales como: hidroxido de
potasio, metasilicato
de sodio, monoetanolamina, espiritus minerales, isobutano, amonia, entre
otros, estassustancias eran irritantes y corrosivas. Estos estaban
almacenados en el area sin un
sistema adecuado de ventilacion, lo cual ocasionaba que los vapores se
quedaran en el
area, exponiendo a los empleados a esos olores.
Riesgo: Exposicion a sustancias quimicas.
Entre otros metodos, uno factible y aceptable para corregir este riesgo es
colocar
un
sistema adecuado de extraccion o almacenar los productos en otro lugar con
una
ventilacion adecuada.on
