Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to:
a) On or about 9/16/04, employees were exposed to potential hazards from a
freight
elevator which was not inspected in accordance with the American National
Standard
safety Code for Elevators. AMTECH PACKAGING SOLUTIONS employees used the
freight elevator daily to move furnaces. The elevator was not inspected on
a periodic
basis by an enforcing authority. Among feasible means of abatement is to
follow
guidelines outlined in ANSI A17.1 that requires periodic inspection to
existing elevator
installations.
