Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm: On or about September 6, 2004, employees were injured by pushing/pulling on a pry-bar inserted into a crank shaft for the purpose of rotating a 4,000 pound counterweight on the tube reducing machine. This exposed employees to the hazard of being struck by the pry-bar during the manual movement of the counterweights. One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to establish proper work procedures which requires the use of appropriate lifting equipment, thereby eliminating the need for manual movement of the counterweight..
