General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees exposed to fall hazards while working from powered industrial trucks: a- Warehouse - On or about 05/05/05, an employee operating a high lift truck (cherry picker) to remove boxes from the storage racks failed to use the provided fall protection consisting of a body belt and retractable lanyard. The employee was working at a height of approximately 20 ft. when he fell from the pallet he was standing on. Feasible and acceptable methods among others to correct the hazard is to: a) Use a restraining means such as rails, chains or a body belt with lanyards or deceleration device as required by ANSI/ASME B56.1-2000 section 4.17.2. OSHA strongly encourages the use of full body harnesses in place of body belts; b) Train employees in company fall protection requirements to include the proper use, care and inspection of body harnesses, lanyards, deceleration devices and attachment points.ent
