Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a crushing hazard while unloading bundles of pipes from a lowboy trailer: a.On or about November 26, 2005, four employees were positioned in a way that they were not clear of an 18,000-pound load that was suspended or about to be suspended, exposing them to the hazard of being crushed or struck by the load. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION IS NOT REQUIRED. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to follow "American National Standard, Safety Standards for Cranes, Derricks, Hoists, Hooks, Jacks, and Slings-SLINGS" (ANSI B30.9-1971), Section 9-1.9.1i. Personnel shall stand clear of the suspended load once the rigging has been connected.
