General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential crushing injuries while working under a load supported by an industrial scissors lift: (a)Gooseneck Assembly Area - Employee(s) were briefly working under a raised trailer unit attached to an Autoquip Corporation scissors lift. The lift was also not attached to the floor. Employees were exposed to a falling and unbalanced load weighing approximately between two hundred and fifty (250) pounds and three hundred (300) pounds while working under the raised trailer, on or about October 31, 2005. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard would be to install an adequately designed stationary support system capable of supporting the trailer assembly and associated fixture(s) or revamp the present system by ensuring that the scissors lift is secured to the floor and all four corners of the support fixture holding the gooseneck portion of the trailer are available and in place when an employee is under the load.
