North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to danger of an improperly rigged towing bridle giving way causing serious injuries (ref: Figure 28 Page 34 and Figure 30 Page 38 third edition, Wire Rope Users Manual, from the Wire Rope Technical Board) : a)towing deck of tug Albermarle-towing bridle on the stern of the Tub Albermarle, used to tow dredges and other towing operations, was rigged with wire rope clamps improperly installed on the wire rope (ref: Figure 28 Page 34 and Figure 30 Page 38 third edition, Wire Rope Users Manual, from the Wire Rope Technical Board) : One feasible means of abatement is to install a proper eye splice in the wire rope towing bridle using a Flemish Splice with thimble or a proper eye splice as recognized by the above reference.
