General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falling: a) River Fabrication Shop, south side; on or about February 8, 2007, an employee was using an elevated wooden pallet as a work platform, lifted by a Nissan forklift. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is for the employer, when elevating employees using powered industrial trucks, to do so in accordance with ASME B56.1 - 2000, Safety Standard for Low and High Lift Trucks, section 4.17, Elevating Personnel, and with a platform that meets ASME B56.1 - 2000, section 7.36, Platforms-Elevating. Abatement certification is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).s
