Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushed-by hazards: (a)On or about 10/01/05 at the North Access Building, Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant, Athens, AL - Proper rigging equipment was not utilized for the lowering/positioning of the Small Articles Monitor (SAM) units in that the rated capacity of the rope used was exceeded. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to utilize the proper rigging equipment capable of handling the load safely.
