Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that the hook was not equipped with a functioning safety latch for the 20 inch jib hoist located at the 20 inch mill stands in the rolling mill: a.Republic Engineered Products, Inc. located in Lorain, Ohio: On or about February 15, 2007, the employer did not ensure the hook for the 20 inch jib hoist located at the 20 inch mill stands, column J17 in the rolling mill, used to move 400 pound exit and entry boxes on the 20 inch mill stands, was equipped with a functioning safety latch. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure that the jib crane hook is equipped with a functioning safety latch according to ASME B30.16-2003. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that the 20 inch jib hoist located adjacent to the 20 inch mill stands in the rolling mill was not marked as to its capacity: a.Republic Engineered Products, Inc. located in Lorain, Ohio: On or about February 23, 2007, the employer did not ensure the 20 inch jib hoist located at column J17 in the rolling mill, used to move entry and exit boxes weighing up to 400 pounds, was marked as to its capacity. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure that the jib crane is appropriately marked as to it's capacity according to ASME B30.11-1998. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
