Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to:
(a) General Machinery Department, South End - The Haberle Machine cold
cutoff saw, used to
cut metal, was not equipped with a magnetic restart or similar device. The
saw was used last
on or about November 21, 2005.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard includes but
not limited to the following: Conform to ANSI an American National
Standard Institute for
Metal Sawing Machines B11.10-2003, Section 6.11 in that the machine
controls shall incorporate
a type of drive motor starter that will disconnect the drive motor from
the power source in the
event of the control voltage or power system failure.
In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required
for this violation
(using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in
addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be
included with
your certification.  This documentation include, but not be limited to,
evidence of the
purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of
abatement, or other
written records.
