5(a)(1): Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of
1970:  The employer
did not furnish employment and a  place of employment which were free from
recognized
hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical
harm in that employees
were exposed to smoke and burn hazards due to blocked and difficult to
open exits
throughout the farms:
Seaboard Farms, Inc & Guymon, OK:  On or about April 5, 2006, employees
were not
allowed free and unobstructed egress from farm facilities and/or difficult
to open exits, such
as but not limited to the following:
a) 1.At Farm 44, the west hallway between Farrowing 1 & 2 was blocked with
2x4s.
2.At Farm 44, in the Breeding/Gestation building the east hall from
Farrowing
#1 was blocked with wood and grates.
3.Farm 30, the exit out of the main building was blocked.
4.Farm 37, In Farrowing the west exit was blocked with a dead board, cart,

5 gallon buckets.
5.Farm 124, Barn #3 the North exit blocked with approximately six dead
piglets.
b)
1.Farm 44, Breeding #1 building; the west end exit the bolt is locked and
the
door difficult to open.
2.Farm 44, Breeding #2 building; the south exit door had to be shoved hard
to
open.
Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct
this hazard is:
a) keep exits clear at all times, and;  b) maintain exit doors so they are
opened easily and
with limited functions.

exposed to electrical hazards due to improper use of electrical equipment:
Seaboard Farms, Inc & Guymon, OK; Farm 44:  On or about April 6, 2006,
employees
were not protected from electrical hazards due to improper use of
electrical equipment.
Employees were exposed to shock, burns and electrocution hazards, such as
but not limited
to the following:
a)Farrowing House #1; Door #5 - use of temporary yellow romex cord to
heater
unit between pens 5/6 and 41/42.
b)Farrowing House #1; Door #4 - use of temporary extension cord to heater
unit
between pens 5/6 and 42/44.
c)Farrowing House #1; Door #3 - use of temporary extension cord to heater
unit
between pens 5/6 and 41/42
d)Farrowing House #1; Door #1 - use of temporary extension cord to heater
unit
between pens 5/6 and 41/42.
Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct
this hazard  is
to replace temporary wiring with approved permanent wiring.
