employer did not furnish employmnent
and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to
the hazard of being thrown or
dropped from the open bucket of a front end loader being utilized to lift
employees up to a roof:
a)Southwest corner of structure - 6313 Fairview, Boise, ID; On or
about8/24/07 and at times prior
thereto, the employer utilized the open bucket of a front end loader to
raise/lower an employee
performing regular maintenance on the structure's evaporation cooling
units to/from the roof, which
exposed the employee to the hazard of falling and/or being struck by
and/or
caught between the
structure and loader.
Note 1: Abatement certification IS required for this item.
Note 2: One of several feasible means of abating this violation is to
utilize an extension ladder or install a fixed
ladder to access the roof.
Note 3: The practice of utilizing the bucket of a front end loader to haul
passengers and/or elevate workers is
prohibited by the Construction Industry Manufacturers Association (CIMA)
per the 1986 Edition of the Wheel
Tractor/Loader Safety Manual for Operating and Maintenance Personnel.e
