Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards when they were allowed to operate, lift and position large steel beams overhead using Rough Terrain Forklifts. This practice is not recommended and or approved by the manufacturer. a) 15 Worldfair Drive, Somerset, Nj 08873. The employer allowed his employees to operate and lift large steel beams using lifting straps placed around the forks of two JLG G10-55A and G12-55A Rough Terrain Forklifts when this practice is not recommended and or approved by the manufacturer. Condition observed by CSHO on or about 03/05/07. ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD, AMONG OTHER MEANS, WOULD BE FOR THE CONTRACTOR TO PURCHASE AND OR RENT THE APPROPRIATE ATTACHMENTS, I.E. TRUSS BOOM OR CRANE HOOK TO REPLACE EXISTING FORKS. EITHER OF THESE TWO ATTACHMENTS ARE BETTER SUITED AND APPROVED FOR THIS TYPE OF WORK.
