Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to possible toxic vapors due to improper storage of strong acids and strong bases. a. On or about 3/18/08, shipping and receiving area. The employer stored hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and ammonium hydroxide together on metal shelves. Feasible means of abatement include: 1. Only keeping enough of the chemicals for laboratory use. 2. Storing the chemicals in separate cabinets. 3. Store chemicals in separate areas to prevent accidental mixing as recommended by Material Safety Data Sheets. "ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM"
