Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to being struck or crushed by improperly supported loads under which they were working. An employee was performing cutting operations on the underside of a truck that was being supported by a large front end loader and the vehicle was not supported by jack stands or the equivalent to ensure a positive means of protective preventing the vehicle from inadvertently coming down. One feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is either use jack stands whenever the loader is used as a jack device, or use an approved vehicle rack on which the vehicle is placed whenever work is done on the vehicle. A) LOCATION: REAR AREA OF SCRAP YARD WORKERS WERE ALLOWED TO WORK UNDER AND AROUND VEHICLES THAT WERE BEING LIFTED BY A LARGE FRONT END LOADER WITHOUT A POSITIVE MEANS IN PLACE TO ENSURE THE STABILITY OF THE ELEVATED LOAD.TED
