Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to A FALL HAZARD OF APPROXIMATELY FIFTEEN FEET: a)On the paper sort line, on or about 11/02/07: A maintenance employee was walking on an elevated belt conveyor in an effort to evaluate why the belt was hanging up. The employee was exposed to a fall hazard of approximately fifteen feet. Among other methods, three feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard are to: 1. Prohibit employees from walking on the elevated portions of the conveyor system or provide employees with adequate fall protection. 2. Use of a manlift to allow employees to access the elevated portions of the conveyor system without being exposed to fall hazards. 3. Ensure employees working on the conveyor systems are protected in accordance with ASME B20.1-1993.
