Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the HAZARD OF FALLING: a)Bay 6, on or about 01/15/2008: Two employees installing fan blades in engine # 2 of a DC-10 jet airliner were working at the intake opening, located 30 feet above the floor, without fall protection. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct these hazards are to: (1)Position a mobile lift at the intake opening to prevent falls through unprotected open areas. (2)Position a personnel pneumatic suction fall arrest system in place to connect fall protection lanyards.
