Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards: The material handler working in the Saw Department was exposed to the hazard of being crushed by a load while using the underhung crane to unload and move steel tubing and the employer failed to establish and follow a program of frequent and periodic inspections. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to establish and follow a program of frequent and periodic inspections of the underhung cranes in accordance with meeting the requirements of ASME B30.11-2004, American Society of Mechanical Engineers for Monorails and Underhung Cranes, Section 11-2.1.2 Frequent Inspection and 11- Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to establish and follow a program of frequent and periodic inspections of the underhung cranes in accordance with meeting the requirements of ASME B30.11-2004, American Society of Mechanical Engineers for Monorails and Underhung Cranes, Section 11-2.1.2 Frequent Inspection and 11- 2.1.3 Periodic Inspection. ***Abatement certification is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c)***
