Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to burns from anhydrous ammonia:
(a) At the load out station of CF Industries located at 4975 North
Washington Street in
Grand Forks, North Dakota, an employee was burned while transferring
anhydrous
ammonia from a storage tank to a truck when an inadequately secured hose
fitting
separated allowing the ammonia to spray the worker. Among other methods,
one feasible
and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to follow the
American National
Standards Institute K61.1-1999 paragraph 3.1 for training.
