North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to thermal hazards from the high operating temperature of the heating elements of the horizontal injection molding machines: a)production floor, the injection barrels of horizontal injection molding machine numbers 1, 2, 4, 5, 9, 12, 13, 16, 38, and 61 were not equipped with a barrier guards or insulating blankets. The employees were exposed to thermal hazards caused by the high operating temperature of the injection unit. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to equip the injection barrel of the horizontal injection molding machine with a cover or barrier, such as an insulating blanket, to prevent inadvertent contact with high temperatures when the injection unit is in the normal operating position which is in accordance with Section 7.3.5.2 of ANSI/SPI B151.1-2007, Safety Requirements for the Manufacture, Care, and Use of Horizontal Injection Molding Machines.
