Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to explosive hazards associated with the transporting of
compressed air through
PVC piping.
On or about 09/11/07 at Maysville, GA: Employees were exposed to explosive
hazards, while
performing plating and metal work.  PVC pipe was being used to transport
compressed air from
the compressor to the shop area and plating building.
"AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT
METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO":
1. The employer should only use material with shatter resistance
properties,(Reference Plastic
Pipe Institute document) and should follow manufacturer recommendation on
application.
In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required
for this violation
(using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
