Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Establishment Site: The hazards of struck by/crushing while operating automobile lifts, such as but not limited to, the HYDRA-LIFT Model 600 Open Floor Alignment Lift, without proper scheduled maintenance (daily/weekly checks, and annual maintenance by qualified person per manufacturers recommendations) and repair work being done by a qualified person. Feasible and acceptable methods to correct the hazard: (a) Permanently mark the lifts to show manufacturers name, rated load capacity, model and serial number as per ANSI B 153.1-1981 Section 5.2. (b) Follow manufacturers recommendations to maintain and care for the lift to ensure its continued safe operations as per ANSI B 153.1-1981 Sections 6.1. (c) Display the manufacturers lift operating instructions in a conspicuous location in the lift area as per ANSI B 153.1-1981 Section 6.2.1. (d) Instruct the operators of the automotive lifts in the safe use and operation of the lifts as per ANSI B 153.1-1981 Section 6.2.2. (e) Establish a periodic inspection procedure as recommended by the manufacturer to ensure the safe operation of the lift as per ANSI B 153.1-1981 Section 6.3.ion
