Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards while entering and exiting an elevated scissor lift. Starch Room employees were exposed to falls of approximately 15 feet when climbing on and off of an elevated Skjack scissor lift platform (Model #SJ3226) and over a mezzanine parapet in order to retrieve and transport product hoses for cleaning. There is no abatement certification or documentation required for this item. Some feasible means of abatement include: 1.Comply with requirements of ANSI/SIA A92.6-1999 national consensus standard "Self-Propelled Elevating Work Platforms" that requires that manufacturer's instructions be followed for entering/exiting lift platforms. 2.Comply with Skjack Manufacturer's operating manual which states on Page 14 that employees should "enter and exit the platform from the ground only" and "when the platform is in the fully retracted position." 3.Train all employees who use the scissor lift in the safe work procedures for entering and exiting the platform. 4.Monitor employees' work practices to ensure compliance. 5.Establish and enforce a discipline policy.ine

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm, including severe burns, to employees in that employees were exposed to dust explosions, deflagration or other fire hazards from a dust collector which was connected to more than one material source. to correct these hazards is to comply with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 61 Standard for Prevention of Fires and Dust Explosions in Agricultural and Food Processing Facilities (2002) including, but not limited to: Paragraph 7.5.2.4 - When more than one material source is connected to a common collector, it shall have the ability to reduce the likelihood of propagation. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
