Section 5(a)(1) of Public Law 91-596, the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to struck by hazard from entering work areas with inadequate lighting:. (a)Compactor Area - On or about July 9, 2009 forklift operators store bales of cardboard in trailers that do not have adequate lighting. Illumination readings were between 0.1 and 0.2 foot candles. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard includes but not limited to: Install the recommended quantity of light in the trailer as recommended in the American National Standard Practice for Industrial Lighting (A11.1 - 1965, Table 1, Page 12).
