Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that the drive-on racks of the two alignment lifts were not maintained in a safe condition as required in ANSI/ALI B153.1-1990 exposing technicians who drive the vehicles onto the lifts and who work under and aound the lifts to potential injury: (a)On or about 08/07/2008, automotive center, the two alignment lifts had defective plates on the drive-on rack which were unstable or unsecured causing the vehicle to shift and become unstable while being driven on or off or during repair work while on the the lifts. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM Feasible abatement for this is to replace and/or secure the racks and ensure through a preventive maintenance program that the plates are inspected on a routine basis to ensure they are in safe condition.
