Section 5 (a) (1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the recognized hazards of explosion, fire and burns from the accidental release of a flammable gas: Foundry melt and pouring area: On or about June 09, 2009, and at times prior thereto, natural gas and compressed air pipelines were not labeled or marked in any manner to identify the material being carried. These lines fed a burner used to provide heat to the top of the crucible/ladle used to transfer molten iron to the pouring area. Feasible abatement methods for this violation include, but may not be limited to, labeling the existing piping system with color codes and stenciled legends identifying the contents and hazards of the material carried by the piping in accordance with 2007 ANSI/ASME standard A13.1.
