Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:08/07/08 Location:Warehouse Equipment:Side Booth Dust Collector Condition:Employees were exposed to dust explosion, deflagration, and other fire hazards from the use of an indoor dust collector that was not vented to the outside. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is to have a qualified engineer inspect the dust collector to evaluate the design and installation in accordance with National Fire Protection (NFPA) 654, Prevention of Fire and Dust Explosions from the Manufacturing, Processing, and Handling of Combustible Particulate Solids. Abatement measures may include moving the collection unit close to an outside wall and equipping the unit with explosion proof venting and vent to the outside.
