(a) In the pellet storage bin located at American Crystal Sugar in
Drayton, North Dakota,
an employee was using a diesel powered Caterpillar 906 compact wheel
loader to move
pellets to a conveyor. The Caterpillar was not approved for use in a Class
II, Division
1, hazardous location where large volumes of combustible dust were present.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement would
be for the
employer to follow the guidelines established in NFPA 505 Fire Safety
Standard for
Powered Industrial Trucks Including Type Designations, Areas of Use,
Conversions,
Maintenance, and Operations, Section 4.2.6.

Handling of
Combustible Particulate Solids, Section 3.10 - Bucket Elevators.
