Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by a falling load.: (a) Ceiling jig area; On or before 12/09/2009, an employee was exposed to a suspended load while working to install electrical boxes beneath a ceiling structure. The load was being suspended approximately five feet from ground level by electrically powered chain hoists. At the time of inspection the load was not resting on stands available for load support. This poses a crush hazard if an equipment failure had occurred. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement, would be to comply with ASME B30.16, (Overhead hoists), Chapter 16-3, Section 16-3.1.3(c).
