Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:
The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a
place of employment
which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to
cause death or serious
physical harm to employees in that employees working inside an air traffic
control tower were
exposed to smoke inhalation:
On or about 6/19/2009, at 1001 N.E. 10th Street, in Pompano Beach,
Florida, vertical openings,
to include floor/ceiling penetrations, were not protected.
A variety of opening protectives is available. The method selected should
depend of the building
type, and configuration of the opening. Typical protection measures
include firestopping. Among
other methods, one feasible or more acceptable abatement method to correct
these hazard is to
comply with section 8.2.5, of NFPA 101, Life Safety Code, 2000 Edition.
PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS
VIOLATION.
