Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to the employees in that employees were exposed to struck by/caught between hazards from roof truss collapse during installation: a)Jobsite: On September 15, 2009 and times prior thereto, employees were exposed to truss spans that were installed without adequate top chord temporary lateral restraint.. b)Jobsite: On September 15, 2009 and times prior thereto, employees were exposed to truss spans that were installed without adequate temporary diagonal bracing. Note 1) Feasible and acceptable methods of abatement to correct this hazard would be to follow either the manufacturer's recommendations on roof truss erection and/or the Building Component Safety Information (BSCI) Guide to Good Practice for Handling, Installing, Restraining & Bracing of Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses, issued by the Wood Truss Council of America (WTCA) and Truss Plate Institute (TPI). Note 2) Abatement certification is required for this item.
