Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm, including severe burns, to employees in that workers were exposed to dust explosion, deflagration, or other fire hazards. (a)Hide shaving/buffing area: The dust collector for the shaving/buffing operations did not have explosion protection systems and was located inside of the building. (b)Hide shaving/buffing area: The dust collector for the shaving/buffing operations did not have isolation devices to prevent deflagration propagation fore and aft of the collector. AMONG OTHER METHODS, A FEASIBLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO RELOCATE THE DUST COLLECTION SYSTEM OUTSIDE THE BUILDING AND INSTALL ISOLATION DEVICES IN THE DUCTWORK. Certification, with date and method of abatement required. Certification of abatement is required by 29 CFR Part 1903 and is to be submitted within ten (10) calendar days after the abatement date.ment
