Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:07/16/09 Location:Inside the Building Condition:Schedule 40 PVC conduit piping, 3/4 inch to 2 inches in diameter, protruding between 13 inches and 24 inches above the floor, was not protected to prevent impalement of employees working from stepladders less than 10 feet high. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to cut the conduit off at floor level and/or cover the top ends with wood to spread out the impact should an employee fall on the conduit. The proposed penalty for this item has been reduced by 50for effective and efficient abatement during the inspection.
