Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not provide employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards which were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to the hazard of serious crushing injuries: a)On or about February 9, 2010, and at times prior, employees working with the Globe Lift were exposed to crushing hazards, in that, they were not trained on how to use the lift, and the lift was not adequately serviced or maintained. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazardous condition would be to follow the instructions detailed in ALI ALOIM (Automotive Lift Institute Standard for Automotive Lifts - Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection, and Maintenance), which details operator training requirements, inspections procedures and inspection points, as well preventive and repair maintenance requirements. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").
