Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards which were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that, employees were subject to being struck-by or crushed by falling loads due to inadequate lifting devices: a) On or about April 7, 2010 and at times prior, employees were exposed to crushing and struck-by injuries in the event of falling loads due to damaged electrical wires on the magnet of the #2 overhead crane in the Tube Mill and the Bloomyard overhead crane in the Rail Mill. Among other methods, a feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to inspect and maintain these wires and adhere to the requirements of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI/ASME) B30.20- Below the Hook Lifting Devices. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").
