Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed crushing and struck-by hazards:
Facility:  The automotive center had several hydraulic auto lifts which
were not marked with the
capacity, and operating instructions.
One feasible and acceptable means of abatement is to comply with the
requirements of
ANSI/ALI Aloim-2000, Standard for Automotive Lift Safety Requirements for
Operation,
Inspection and Maintenance and the Automotive Lift Institute "Lifting it
Right" which states:
1.  The owner or employer shall display the manufacturer's operating
instructions, general safety
information, safety tips, and warning labels in a conspicuous location in
the lift area.
2.  The manufacturer's rated load capacity is displayed on the nameplate
attached to the lift.
3.  The employer shall re-train its employees to ensure the safety devices
are always engaged
and working before working underneath the vehicle, if it is not, carefully
lower the vehicle,
inform your supervisors and have the lift serviced.
