Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that the lack of a safety latch on a hoist hook exposed employees to being struck-by the load and/or by the lifting device that could be dislodged from the hook: a) Multi-Cast Corporation, Wauseon, Ohio: On or about November 23, 2010, the employer did not ensure that the 2-ton Ingersoll-Rand Model HL2000K molding hoist was outfitted with a hook equipped with a safety latch, exposing employees to being struck-by the load and/or the lifting device that could dislodge form the hook. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to comply with the requirements of The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B30.16-2007 "Overhead Hoists (Underhung)", Section16-1.2.9 "Hooks". No additional abatement information is needed for this item.
