Areas:  Employees
were exposed to fire and/or explosion hazards in that the recirculation
duct work for the Torit
Downflo DFT 4-32 dust collector was not designed to prevent transmission
of energy from fire
or explosion to the building and to prevent return of dust with an
efficiency of 99.9 percent at
10 microns.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this
hazard is to ensure that recirculation ductwork is designed to prevent the
transmission of
energy from a fire or explosion to the building and to prevent return of
dust with an
efficiency of 99.9 percent at 10 microns in accordance with Chapter 6.1.3
of National
Fire Protection Code Association (NFPA) 654 "Standard for Prevention of
Fire Dust
Explosion from the Manufacturing, Processing, and Handling of Combustible
Particulate
Solids" (2006 Edition).
d) Main and Auxiliary Grinding Rooms, Sand Blasting Room, and Adjacent
Areas:  Employees
were exposed to fire and/or explosion hazards due to the use of a Ridgid
and other general-
purpose shop vacuum cleaners which were equipped with standard i.e.
sparking-producing
motors to clean combustible dust.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement methods to
correct this
hazard is to use vacuum cleaners that are listed for use in Class II
Hazardous Location
as set forth in Chapter 8.2.3.1 of the National Fire Protection Code
