Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees exposed to struck-by hazards while under and around defective automobile lifts: a) On or about October 12, 2010, at the above located workplace, employees were required to work under and around fully extended hydraulic automotive lifts with defective latches. The employees were thereby exposed to struck-by hazards in the event the lift failed. One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, would be to follow the specifications referenced in American National Standards Institute's Standard for Automotive Lifts - Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection and Maintenance (ANSI/ALI ALOIM:2008).
