Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employee(s) were exposed to falls while walking on top of conveyor rollers. Employee(s) were not protected from falls while working on top of the conveyor to prepare stacks of corrugated boxes for strapping and when walking on the conveyor rollers to unjam the Signode Strapping machine. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is to follow the American Society of Mechanical Engineers standard, ASME B20.1-2006, Safety Standard for Conveyors and Related Equipment, safety requirements as applicable in section 6.11 Roller and Wheel Conveyors. Abatement certification is required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c).
