Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:01/20/10 Location:Ingleside Ramp to Westview Mall Equipment:MACK DM6885 Refuse Collection Truck Condition:Employees stood on rear riding bars of refuse collection trucks while the trucks traveled at speeds in excess of 10 miles per hour and distances, exceeding 0.2 mile, and were exposed to being struck by moving vehicles if they were to fall off the vehicle. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ride the refuse truck only when standing on the riding bar, while the truck is traveling forward at less than 10 miles per hour for a distance not to exceed 0.2 miles. Develop and implement a comprehensive safety program using manufacturers' recommendations and the American National Standard, ANSI Z 245.1 1992, 6.2.4. (a) Safety Requirements for Refuse Collecting and Compacting Equipment. Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs, training certification, etc.) is required for this item.
