Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to the hazard of falls from elevations and thermal
burns:
a) Horizontal Well Drillers/Detweiler/rig # 5, Dimock, PA - The employer
did not ensure
that an employee working from a platform on the derrick of Rig #5, approx
30 ft above the
ground and was provided with a ready and convenient means of escape, in
the event of a
well blow-out. The Geronimo Line was attached to the side of the rig near
the rear of the
platform and was not easily accessible to the derrick hand, thus exposing
the employee to
potential fall and burn hazards, on or about April 20, 2010.
