eUnused ductwork located above bin 2, associated with material storage bin connected material conveyance systems, had been blanked, or "dead-legged" which reduces airflow efficiency and can allow combustible material to collect in the section of unused duct. Abatement note: Among other methods, feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard would be to comply with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 654 "Standard for the Prevention of Fire and Dust Explosions from the Manufacturing, Processing, and Handling of Combustible Particulate Solids (2006 edition) and NFPA 69 "Standard on Explosion Prevention Systems" (2008 edition) as they apply to your operations and equipment: including, but not limited to, the following, (1) design air material separators (dust collectors) prevent both dust return and transmission of fire and/or explosion energy into the building (NFPA 654 section 6.1.3), (2) install explosion protection systems for pieces of equipment associated with molding operation processes (NFPA 654 section 7.1.2), (3) install isolation devices between pieces of process equipment connected by ductwork and from air-material separators upstream to work areas (NFPA 654 sections 7.1.4 and 7.1.5), (4) locate material storage bins (bins 1-6) outside the building (NFPA 654 section 7.2.3.2.1), (5) locate air-material separatorsoutside the building or equip them with explosion venting or other explosion protection (NFPA 654 section 7.13.1.1.1 and 7.13.1.1.2), (6) provide for system components to be fabricated of conductive parts, or complete an engineering analysis regarding electrostatic ignition potential elimination (NFPA 654 section 9.3.1.1 and 9.3.1.2), (7) provide air filtration media with an efficiency of 99.9% at 10 microns for air recycling and prevent transmission of fire or explosion energy into the building (NFPA 654 section 6.1.3), and (8) evaluate and implement an explosion prevention and control system according to one or a combination of the methods found in NFPA 69.
