General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards. (a)Employees inflated aircraft-type tires to full pressure (120 psi), after they were installed on trailers and without use of barriers or a restraining device, thereby becoming exposed to being struck by flying parts should the tires explode. Among other feasible and acceptable methods for correcting these hazards, one acceptable method would be to follow and enforce the guidelines for multi-piece rim wheels to include sufficient barriers or a restraining device, that would contain flying parts, to protect employees.g
