Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer does not furnish to each of his employees, employment and a place of employment which are free of recognized hazards of being caught between conveyed sections of pipe that are causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees: This violation occurred on or about December 21, 2010, where employees were exposed to being caught between two sections of pipe and/or one section of pipe and the conveyor equipment when walking/working between groups #4 and #5 of the chain driven, live roller, Diablo conveyors of the inbound line in the coating operation. Among other feasible abatement methods, two methods would be to: 1. Enforce the preventative measures listed in the company's Job Safety Analyses which prohibit walking or working between pipe sections. 2. Comply with the Association of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B20.1, Standard for Conveyor and Related Equipment, Paragraph 5.9,Guards and Guarding.
