Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by of falling load hazards: Frequent and periodic inspections were not performed on 1-Ton Electric Chain Hoist; 1-Ton Ingersall Rand Hoist; three (3) 1/2-Ton Dayton Hoists. Employees were exposed to struck-by hazards associated with falling loads and/or an overloaded hoist. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS: Perform frequent and periodic inspections as required by ASME B30.16-2007 - OVERHEAD HOISTS, Section 16-2.1.2 and 16-2.1.3. Inspections include, but are not limited to, controls and operating mechanisms for improper operations; safety devices for malfunction; deterioration or leakage in air systems; and, deformations, chemical damage, or cracks in hook. 29 CFR 1903.19(c)(1) requires certification that the abatement of the above violation is completed.
