Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard when an scissor lift was misused as a crane: On or about 03/13/2012 at 2159 GA Highway 20, Conyers, GA: Three employees were exposed to a fall hazard over 20 feet to the lower level, when they used a scissor lift to hoist a truss section into place. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to require and ensure that scissor lifts are used for only their intended purpose(s) as required by ANSI/SIA A92.6, Section 7.11.11 consensus standard for Self-Propelled Elevating Work Platforms and to obtain and utilize proper equipment such as but not limited to a crane for hoisting purposes. No abatement certification or documentation is required for this item.
